    International tourists spend over 86.4 billion euros in Spain up to August, an increase of 17.55%

    Minister Jordi Hereu revealed the figures at the opening of the Turespaña convention held in Tenerife with sector digitalisation as the core theme. In August, foreign visitors contributed 15.36 billion euros, 12.9% more than the same month in 2023 Jordi Hereu “we must continue to look to diversification, seasonal adjustment and digitalisation for the prosperity left by tourism to reach every corner of Spain”. Jordi Hereu has highlighted that this is a good time for employment in tourism, with a 5.5% increase in August (150,000 new affiliations) and a total of around 2.9 million people employed in the tourism sector

    Industry opens a new call for the Activa Startups programme, offering SMEs up to €9,500 to improve their innovation

    The State Secretariat for Industry, through the EOIFoundation, plans to help 735 SMEs all over national territory in this call with Next Generation-EU funds.     Spain is committed to a new European pact for industry to ensure fair competition with third countries

    Jordi Hereu advocates reducing energy as a key element for European companies.     Jordi Hereu vindicates the potential of oleotourism as a generator of regional wealth and a support of inland tourism

    The OleotourJaén Tourism Sustainability Plan obtained 4.5 million euros from the 2022 National Food and Wine Plan. Hereu has highlighted the olive oil sector’s efforts in providing innovative and distinctive tourism experiences. The province of Jaén has been given more than €40M in aid in total in 18 sustainability, digitalization and heritage plans.     Spain received 11.1 million international air travellers in August, 9.6% more than the same month in 2023

    Between January and August, Spain received 71.2 million international air travellers, 11.9% up on 2023. The highest increase was recorded in the Region of Valencia with a 13.1% rise; the lowest in the Canary Islands with 9.8% and Balearic Islands with 6%. These figures highlight the sustained trend towards a greater diversification of destinations. The notable month-on-month growth of Poland is worthy of special mention, with 39.6%, United States with a 16.2% increase and ‘other countries’ with a rise of 12.1%. In terms of market diversification, Ibero-American countries, Canada, China and Persian Gulf countries stand out.

    Employment in the tourism industry grew by 5.5% in August accounting for more than 151,000 new registered workers compared to a year ago

    Hereu praises the cultural, wine and gastronomic value of Castile-La Mancha as a driving force for inland tourism

    The Wine Routes Project has received more than €2.4 million in its various editions, with around €300,000 going to Castile-La Mancha.     The Government approves a new Historic Vehicles Regulation

    Vehicles manufactured or registered for the first time at least 30 years ago will be considered historic. The new regulation, which will enter into force on 1 October, urges councils to establish formulas in their municipal bylaws to allow this type of vehicles to circulate.
