    Hereu announces the launch of the second edition of the Chip PERTE with a budget of €200M

    This new edition will have two sections, one to promote projects for the microelectronics value change and a second section aimed at Important Projects of Common European Interest. In the first edition of the Chip PERTE 65.4 million euros were awarded to the companies KDPOF and Semidynamics. The Minister of Industry and Tourism recalled the Government’s commitment to the development and modernisation of industrial estates.

    There were 10.6 million international air passengers in September, 10.1% more than the same month in 2023

    From January to September, Spain welcomed 81.7 passengers, 11.7% up on 2023. The highest increase was recorded in the Region of Valencia with a rise of 15.9%; the lowest, the Canary Islands with 8.6% and Balearic Islands with 5%. As already seen in July and August, these data reveal a sustained trend towards greater diversification of destinations among international travellers. The trend towards market diversification is consolidated with good performance by Ibero-American countries (an increase of 15.6%), Canada (18.3%), China (71.8%) and Persian Gulf countries (34.9%).

    Employment linked to the tourism sector continues to attract new registered workers and grows by 2.6% in September

    In the last month of the summer, the number of registered workers in the tourism sector rose by 73,107 compared to the previous year. Employment in tourism stands at around 2.9 million registered workers, 13.5% of the economy as a whole. In September, the number of employees in the tourism sector increased by 3.1% compared to the same month in 2023. In both absolute and relative terms (4.5%), the Canary Islands is the region that saw most growth in September.

    The money will be divided into two lines of funding: the SME line with 57.5 million euros and the Young Entrepreneurs line with a budget of 20.5 million euros. An estimated 431 business projects are expected to be covered with an induced investment of 94.6 million euros.

    The Ministry of Industry and Tourism grants €19.7 million in aid for the 2023 Tourism Experiences Programme

    Tourism will subsidise 41 projects (7 individual and 34 cooperative) that benefit 230 entities. This edition of the 2023 Experiences programme was assigned €20 million in aid to strengthen the value of the country’s material and immaterial heritage and to attract quality tourism. The various editions of the Spain Tourism Experiences initiative have a total budget of €100 million.

    SEG Automotive has received more than €10.5 million from the Moves Singulares II programme for three sustainable mobility projects. As part of the PERTE VEC III, €21 million to Lifthium Energy Cantabria stand out. Or €30 million from the decarbonisation PERTE to ENSO ESCO for a project led by Solvay in Torrelavega. The Minister of Industry has reiterated the Government’s commitment to companies working for sustainable mobility, supporting the drive to attract new investments and create qualified jobs with European funds.

    Minister Jordi Hereu chairs the meeting of the Spanish Tourism Council (CONESTUR), where new advances have been made to strengthen the Sustainable Tourism Strategy 2030. Hereu underlines the importance of dialogue and consensus to transform the sector, to place people at its very centre as well as to consolidate tourism as an engine of economic development. CONESTUR is an advisory and consultative body formed by the public sector (central, regional and local government) and the private sector (CEOE, Chambers of Commerce and union organisations) that met for the last time in October 2022.

    Hereu announces €25.5 million in aid for the electro-intensive industry.

    This aid helps offset costs related to supporting renewable energy and efficient energy production, as well as covering additional expenses in island and other non-mainland territories. This contribution complements other aid for the electro-intensive industry, including over €900 million in CO2 emissions compensation provided by this Government since 2019.

    Hereu announces the granting of €133 M to Stellantis Figueruelas within the third call of the PERTE VEC

    With the aid that was announced today, the Stellantis Group has received nearly 300 million euros, more than 272 million euros in subsidies and 26 million euros in loans. The resolution, which will be published in the next few days, includes other aid; 2 million euros to Stellantis Vigo; 3 million euros for Mahle Behr Spain of Tarragona; and 2.5 million euros for Ficosa of Barcelona. The Ministry of Industry and Tourism has increased the subsidy for the PowerCo gigafactory in Sagunto, which is aiming to improve its project, and which now rises from 98 million euros to 152 million.

    Hereu stresses the impetus of the Ministry for Innovation and Entrepreneurship as driving forces behind industrial transformation

    The Minister of Industry and Tourism valued the importance of PERTEs as an instrument to support new products and public corporations such as ENISA, which is behind various lines of credit for SMEs and certifies new startups. The minister recalled that this week the EOI has opened the application period for the first national edition of aid for the ‘Activa Startup’ programme assigned with a budget of around €7 million for grants of up to €9,500. At an event on SMEs held yesterday at the EOI headquarters, the president of the Government announced that the executive will allocate €4.5 billion in subsidies and nearly €50 billion in loans from the Recovery Plan.

    International tourists spend over 86.4 billion euros in Spain up to August, an increase of 17.55%

    Minister Jordi Hereu revealed the figures at the opening of the Turespaña convention held in Tenerife with sector digitalisation as the core theme. In August, foreign visitors contributed 15.36 billion euros, 12.9% more than the same month in 2023 Jordi Hereu “we must continue to look to diversification, seasonal adjustment and digitalisation for the prosperity left by tourism to reach every corner of Spain”. Jordi Hereu has highlighted that this is a good time for employment in tourism, with a 5.5% increase in August (150,000 new affiliations) and a total of around 2.9 million people employed in the tourism sector

    Industry opens a new call for the Activa Startups programme, offering SMEs up to €9,500 to improve their innovation

    The State Secretariat for Industry, through the EOIFoundation, plans to help 735 SMEs all over national territory in this call with Next Generation-EU funds. The planned investment amounts to 6,987,950 euros from the funds of the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism. This initiative, framed in the National Connected Industry 4.0 Strategy, aims to promote open innovation as well as business growth by developing collaborative projects between SMEs and startups.

    Spain is committed to a new European pact for industry to ensure fair competition with third countries

    Jordi Hereu advocates reducing energy as a key element for European companies. Existing legislation in the EU must also be reduced and simplified as the regulatory framework is creating barriers and uncertainties for industrial investment. The minister calls for financial resources to be mobilised to enable the development of industrial and technological capacities in the EU and proposes the creation of an EU financial instrument to ensure the success of European industrial policy. He also asked the EU to maintain its investment effort beyond 2026, the revised end date for the Recovery Plans. The head of Spanish industry has asked for a plan of action in the automotive sector with a simplified and coherent law that proposes a realistic future.

    The OleotourJaén Tourism Sustainability Plan obtained 4.5 million euros from the 2022 National Food and Wine Plan. Hereu has highlighted the olive oil sector’s efforts in providing innovative and distinctive tourism experiences. The province of Jaén has been given more than €40M in aid in total in 18 sustainability, digitalization and heritage plans. The company Mahou has benefitted from 4.5 million euros in grants from line 1 of the decarbonisation PERTE. Spain ranks second in Europe in beer production. The sector has over 540,000 employees.

    Spain received 11.1 million international air travellers in August, 9.6% more than the same month in 2023

    Between January and August, Spain received 71.2 million international air travellers, 11.9% up on 2023. The highest increase was recorded in the Region of Valencia with a 13.1% rise; the lowest in the Canary Islands with 9.8% and Balearic Islands with 6%. These figures highlight the sustained trend towards a greater diversification of destinations. The notable month-on-month growth of Poland is worthy of special mention, with 39.6%, United States with a 16.2% increase and ‘other countries’ with a rise of 12.1%. In terms of market diversification, Ibero-American countries, Canada, China and Persian Gulf countries stand out.

    Employment in the tourism industry grew by 5.5% in August accounting for more than 151,000 new registered workers compared to a year ago

    Employment in tourism stabilises at 2.9 million registered workers, 13.8% of all employees in the economy. In August, the number of employees in the tourism sector increased by 6.4% compared to the same month in 2023. Social Security affiliation has grown in this month in all the autonomous communities, and with remarkable intensity in the communities of Cantabria (7.6%) and Extremadura (6%).

    Hereu praises the cultural, wine and gastronomic value of Castile-La Mancha as a driving force for inland tourism

    The Wine Routes Project has received more than €2.4 million in its various editions, with around €300,000 going to Castile-La Mancha. Between January and July of this year, Castile-La Mancha welcomed over 2.7 million tourists from other regions of Spain and more than 140,000 international tourists, who so far this year have spent around €190 million in the region. The boom of inland tourism in Castile-La Mancha is also reflected in increased employment.     The Government approves a new Historic Vehicles Regulation

    Vehicles manufactured or registered for the first time at least 30 years ago will be considered historic. Also those included in the General Inventory of Spanish Historic Heritage Assets, declared of cultural interest or those with a special interest. The new regulation, which will enter into force on 1 October, urges councils to establish formulas in their municipal bylaws to allow this type of vehicles to circulate. Historic vehicles we be used occasionally and never as a daily means of transport to minimise their environmental impact.

    The Government launches the third call for applications of the 'Digital Generation SMEs' plan to promote training in SMEs

    This new call includes more flexible training at a national level with formats better suited to the needs of the recipients: 50-hour programmes, virtual modality, and with greater diversity in study topics.
